Fighting to Live Again

From the very first shot, I knew this medicine was life changing.

I’ve been overweight/obese my entire life since the age of 3. I can remember the mean things kids would say all through school. By the time I reached my high school years, I was weighing in the 350s. I tried every diet under the sun: the cabbage soup diet, low fat diets, various Richard Simmons diets (Deal a Meal and later on, the new and more fun Foodmover diet!), and the diabetic diet (even though I wasn’t diabetic). I’d lose a little and then gain it all back.

In college, somehow I avoided the “freshman 15” and actually lost some weight by eating less. I met my then husband in 2003 and I dropped down to 287 pounds by the time we married in 2006. Very shortly after that, I had my first child in 2007. I gained 50 pounds with that pregnancy. By December 2010, I had ballooned to 401 pounds. I was tired and couldn’t keep up with my toddler so I started calorie counting and exercising. I was doing great and even won “The Biggest Loser” contest at my work! I lost 113 pounds and then got pregnant again (apparently my body thinks 287-288 is the perfect weight to get pregnant!) I had my second child in 2012 but this time I kept counting calories and only gained 30 pounds with that pregnancy. Shortly after, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I continued counting calories and made it to 267 pounds by 2013.

Family stresses took over, I filed for divorce by 2019, and by February 2020 I was at my highest weight of my life: 417 pounds. I was depressed and disgusted with myself. By this time, I was 40 years old and the pain of carrying all that extra weight was catching up with me. Clothes didn’t fit. I could barely breathe. I needed a seatbelt extender for my car. Osteoarthritis was taking over in my knees, back, and feet. I was miserable in my body. I knew I was slowly killing myself. So I set out to lose weight AGAIN. This time with Keto.

While everyone else was gaining weight during the COVID shutdowns, I was losing! By March 2021, I lost 119 pounds. And then I met a guy.  All we did was eat out. I maintained my loss for about a year and then the weight started creeping back. By the time I ended that relationship 2.5 years later, I’d gained 50 pounds back.

I discovered Emerge and tirzepatide in December 2023 and I was back up to 371 pounds. From the very first shot, I knew this medicine was life changing. As of February 2025, I’ve lost 73 pounds with tirzepatide (119 pounds from my highest back in 2020) and I’m under 300 pounds for the first time since 2021. The weight is coming off slower this time. I still have to count calories or I won’t lose. It’s not a magic shot. I still have an appetite and eat full meals. But the medicine helps me control my portion sizes and it turns off the voice in my head that was always thinking about the next meal or snack.

I’m so grateful that I’ve been on this journey with Emerge for the last 13.5 months. It’s been so great having their support and the support of others I’ve come to know that are also on this journey with Emerge. I’m intending to make this the last weight loss journey because I’ll be 45 this year and I want to live better in my later years than I did in my early ones.

With Emerge by my side, I’m confident in my success!
